The price can vary quite a bit. So getting something that’s going to dig into the ground and not your wallet is what this is about!
Let’s take a look at the 4 best ATV cultivators on the market:
1. Impact Impliments Pro Disc Plow/Harrow
Impact Implements has a high quality disc plow that can be used for cultivation. On average, disc plows tend to be more expensive than a regular style cultivator.
With that said, this unit is a well made solid steel construction that customers are happy with. It has 8 blades and the cutting width is a good spread at 54 inches. This will attach to your hitch but you’ll need to buy that separately. Either a 1-point lift system, sleeve hitch adapter or a CAT-0 hitch.
They have a 1 year warranty on this model. It’s pretty heavy-duty at 120 lbs. Make sure you have the right mounting hardware for this before you buy. This is not compatible with a ball hitch! We found a hitch that pairs quite well with this unit here.
2. Field Tuff ATV Tow-Behind Cultivator
The Field Tuff ATV Cultivator is the bells and whistle model for ATV owners.
It has the wheels, the heavy duty construction and the polished look. It’s also on the higher-end price wise.
Holy moly is it heavy though, the whole assembly is 221 lbs. That sure gives it some weight to dig into the earth. You get a 1 year warranty with this beast and a 48 inch width coverage. They recommend a 500cc or larger ATV to pull the weight.
It’s a pin style hitch, so it should be easy to mount this to most receivers. There are seven shanks in total, three in the front and four in the back. The depth is adjustable at up to 8 inches deep. The one knock on this is the bolts, they are the weak point of the assembly. Some customers have reported them shearing under heavy use.
3. Brinly BS-38BH Sleeve Hitch Tow Behind Box Scraper, 38-Inch
Brinlys Sleeve hitch cultivator is a compact option for medium to light duty applications.
It covers 38 inches of width so it’s less than other featured cultivators. I
t’s one of the most popular and affordable pieces of equipment in its class.
You can adjust it and add weight on the back to get a strong dig into the soil. You will need a sleeve hitch for this to work. See that little pin on the side? You can remove the side plates and scraper bar to make it just a rear blade.
After that you can move dirt, level an area, or whatever you want. This is a good option for garden use and it comes with a 2 year warranty. The all steel construction should give you some confidence, it’ll last.
It’s not that heavy – only 74 lbs. But, it’s made in America with plenty of happy customers.
4. Impact Implements Pro Cultivator for ATV/UTV with 2 inch Receivers
Impact Impliments has a very affordable cultivator on the market.
You will need a proper hitch for this, but if you’re looking for a pure cultivator there isn’t a better value out there. This covers 49 inches in width and it’s made of steel.
One of the lightest cultivators we’ve seen though, at only 40 lbs. It’s also not adjustable. So getting the right depth might be tricky. There are adjustable hitches, Impact sells their 1-Point system, that would help.
Can I make my own DIY Cultivator?
If you’ve got some welding skills it is possible to build your own cultivator. You just need some time, and parts. The video below is of a cultivator where a guy did just that. It’s pretty neat.
If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck, we think the Brinly cultivator will do. It might not be as wide as other options, but it’s several hundred dollars cheaper. It also has some issues that people looking for heavier use might not be comfortable with and it’s pretty light. But for medium to light applications it’s a great buy.
For anyone doing heavy duty work, you can’t go wrong with Field Tuffs cultivator or Impact Impliments. You’ll pay more but they’re heavy adjustable units that are built to last. The thing to keep in mind with any cultivator you buy is your hitch.
Not all cultivators are adjustable, especially the cheaper ones. So having a 1 point system hitch that Impliments offers might be a good choice, or if you don’t want to get a new hitch you might prefer buying a different style of cultivator.
